Our first task was to navigate to other side of Greater Helsinki. We didn't make the shortest route and we ended up to check out Vanhankaupunginlahti Rapids and Viikki Arboretum. Here is a picture of a bridge that goes over the bay, Vanhankaupunginlahti.
Weather was rainy, which made drafting rather unpleasant and wet experience. We had a one breakdown on our way to Porvoo. Ripa's chain fell off the cogs. It took us a while to get it back.
Around 8.30 am we stopped for a breakfast at McDonald's Porvoo. We had some cheeseburgers (4 for me and 3 for Ripa) and hot chocolade. At this point my meter had 83 km with average speed 22 km/h.
After our break I felt quite cold since soaking wet clothes is a bad combination with powerful air-conditioner. It took me a while to warm up again. Close to Liljendal we met Ripa's wife and the kids, who were driving to Kouvola. We got tomatoes, yogurt and cereals from them. At Liljendal (35km from Porvoo) we stopped for a lunch at Shell service station.
After lunch rains started to slow down. After about 10 km rain stopped and headwind started. Due to headwind we switched place after each couple km. I was getting a bit tired and we had short breaks after each 5 km.
There were some wild strawberries ripe for a pick.
After about 50 km we reached to Kymijoki River. At this point there was only a few kilometers left.
Around 5 pm we reached our destination - Kouvola Railway Station. I booked tickets to Helsinki for me and two bikes.
I had an half an hour before train departed. So we got some donuts and chocolate milk as a reward for ourselves. After a long bike ride donuts are just super.
