Kerttu-mummi.
She died this morning. My mother called me pretty soon after it. I was at work. All this day I've had to put the thought of it aside. I've held back the tears. Not now. Later. Now that I'm writing this, I'll let them come.
Two years ago she had a stroke. You can read about it hear She did not speak after that. However, she did hear and understood everything we said to her so she was still her sweet self that she had always been.
I can't even begin to describe how awesome this lady was. Her gardening skills were increadible and she had the most beatiful garden. Always. Growing up I spent hours and hours playing in her garden. She was also the best cook in the world. I know everyone says that of their grandmas but when it comes to her cooking, it's no exaggeration. I wish I had spent more time with her in the kitchen so maybe she would have passed on some of her secrets. Her house was also always very neat. Always. And yet I can't remember seeing her ever cleaning. Maybe she had a house that cleaned itself.
At family dinners I don't remember seeing her eat much herself. She made sure everyone else were fed and satisfied. She loved dolls and she had lots of dolls from many countries in her house that she had bought for suvenirs when she travelled. She always gave me my favourite Christmas presents. The happiest memories from my childhood are spending Christmases in her house. She always made them very special. How I've missed those Christmases!
I have been truly blessed to have her in my life and I will miss her dearly.
